    La prensa afrouruguaya ha tratado gran diversidad de temas a lo largo del tiempo, entre ellas el racismo. Para la década del cuarenta del siglo XX, se editaron varios periódicos al mismo tiempo, lo cual trajo intercambios, discusiones, diálogos, debates entre ellos. Uno de esos debates, en 1945, se originó a raíz de un comentario del reconocido socialista argentino Alfredo Lorenzo Palacios quien afirmó que en el Río de la Plata no había racismo. Esta afirmación desencadenó la discusión sobre si había o no racismo en el Uruguay. Surgió una serie de comentarios desde la gente del colectivo que se animó a opinar sobre el tema, transcriptos en las publicaciones de la colectividad afrouruguaya Nuestra Raza, Revista Uruguay y Democracia. A través del análisis del contenido de dichas notas, el artículo busca conocer distintas opiniones de miembros de la colectividad sobre el problema del racismo en Uruguay, así como entender qué fue lo que llevó a Alfredo Palacios a negar el racismo local. Consecuentemente, el artículo muestra también algunas de las maneras como operaba el racismo estructural en los años cuarenta del siglo pasado.

    The Afro-Uruguayan press has dealt with a wide variety of topics over time. Among them racism. By the forties of the twentieth century, several newspapers were published at the same time, which brought exchanges, discussions, dialogues, debates between them. One of those debates, in 1945, originated from a comment by the renowned Argentine socialist Alfredo Lorenzo Palacios who affirmed that there was no racism in the Río de la Plata. This statement triggered the discussion about whether or not there was racism in Uruguay. A series of comments emerged from people from the group who were encouraged to comment on the issue, transcribed in the publications of the Afro-Uruguayan community Nuestra Raza, Revista Uruguay and Democracia. Through análisis of the content of these notes, the article seeks to learn different opinions of members of the community about the problem of racism in Uruguay, as well as to understand what it was that led Alfredo Palacios to deny local racism. Consequently, the article also shows some of the ways in which structural racism operated in the 1940s.
