La producción poética afrodescendiente está estrechamente vinculada con el desarrollo de una identidad política dirigida a reivindicar derechos de plena ciudadanía para las comunidades en la diáspora. Dichas reclamaciones pueden concretarse en elementos temáticos, en recursos estilísticos o en el tipo de medio elegido para difundirlos. En el presente estudio me propongo abordar la forma por medio de la cual la poeta afrocostarricense Queen Nzinga Maxwell reivindica el espacio para la voz afrodescendiente a través de su poesía oral. En particular, me interesa destacar la dimensión diaspórica e identitaria que caracteriza su obra y su uso de la performance como espacio de conexión con la comunidad. Al mismo tiempo, me importa subrayar el uso de figuras retóricas relacionadas con la tradición poética afrodescendiente y sus luchas comunitarias.

The Afro-descendant poetical production is closely related with the development of a political identity and the claim of full citizenship for the communities in the diaspora. Those claims can materialize itself in the themes, the stylistic resources or the type of media selected to diffuse them. In the following study I aim to deal with the form by which the Afro Costa Rican poet Queen Nzinga Maxwell claims space for the afro-descendant voice through her oral poetry. In particular, I am interested in emphasizing the diasporic and identity dimension that characterize her work and in studying her use of the performance as a link with the community. At the same time, I want to underline the use of rhetorical figures related with the afro-descendant poetical tradition and its communal battles.
