Esta es una meditación sobre el papel que juega el fracaso —a veces provisional, a veces definitivo— en toda investigación filosófica. El recurso para llevar a cabo este ejercicio lo ofrece Platón en el Me-nón, cuya primera parte ilustra muy bien la situación de una investigación que, a la mitad de su caminar, debe cambiar el rumbo porque ha entrado en un callejón sin salida. Apenas iniciado, el diálogo va enfrascándose en una serie de intentos que llevan a los investigadores (a Sócrates y Menón, por un lado; al escritor del diá-logo y al lector del mismo, por el otro) a un impase en la indagación, que termina finalmente en fracaso y obliga a reiniciar el trabajo desde el principio, justamente a la mitad del texto del Menón.

This is a meditation on the role that fail-ure —sometimes provisional, sometimes final— plays in all philosophical inquiry. The resource to carry out this exercise is offered by Plato in the Meno, the first part of which very well illustrates the situation of an investigation that, halfway through, must change course because it has entered a blind alley. As soon as it started, the dialogue became involved in a series of attempts that led the research-ers (Socrates and Meno, on the one hand; the writer of the dialogue and its reader, on the other) to an impasse in the investigation, which ended finally in fail-ure and forces to restart the work from the beginning, exactly in the middle of the text of the Meno.
