The Lower and middle parts of the Chalk Formation near Tip Tibnia in the Bahariya Oasis yielded a planktonic foraminiferal assemblage of late Campanian to early Maastrictian age. A Rosita morozovae Zone and a Rugotruncana subcircumnodifer Zone were recognized. The planktonic foraminiferal number, the planktonic/benthonic ratio and the dissolution patterns indicate a slope depth for the lower part of the succession and an outer shelf depth for its middle part. The upper part of the section consists of hard limestones, from which no microfaunas could be isolated.
