Thecamoebinid occurrence in samples from a high altitude freshwater Californian lake is documented. Analysis of the apertural morphology in living populations of Difflugia tricuspis carter, demonstrates that this feature is subject to considerable intraspecific variation. Intergradational morphologic series are presented based on living representatives of this species which provide an improved understanding of the apertural variation exhibited by this taxon.
