  • Resumen
    • Maastrichtian, Paleocene and Eocene pollen recovered from subsurface samples of the Araromi Shale of southwestern Nigeria, a lateral equivalent of the “Coal Measures” rocks (?Campanian-Paleocene) of southeastern Nigeria were studied and compared with surface outcrop samples of the “Coal Measures” suite of rocks of southeastern Nigeria. Pollen grains are mainly monocolpates with varying sculptures of the exine. These compare with those pollen attributed by previous other workers, to the Palmae. Additionally, tricolporates, tricolpates and pollen of other suprageneric groups were recovered. They show few specimens, generally for each of the recovered taxa. Pollen assemblage is similar to those from the Late Cretaceous and Paleogene of other tropical areas.

Taxonomic classification of 12 of these pollen taxa are at form genus level, 1 new recombination has been made, 5 new form species and a new form genus Echimorphotriporites are described and illustrated.
