  • Resumen
    • Sixten planktonic foraminiferal species and subspecies from the Gehannam Formation are systematically studied and their stratigraphic distribution is marked. The rock unit from which these taxa are separated is sampled at the Guta village (near Qarat el Naqab) on the western side of Birket (= Lake) Qarun, Fayum area.

The Gehannam Formation in the same general area was considered by previous authors as either Middle or Upper Eocene. This sequence in the Guta section completely belongs to the Middle Eocene.

Two modified biozones are here recognized and defined. These are:

Top: 2. Hantkenina alabamensis/Truncorotaloides rohri Zone.

      Base: 1. Globorotalia lehneri Zone.
