Las no esclarecidas circunstancias de la muerte del hijo de Felipe II fueron desde muy pronto objeto de manipulación, a veces por el interés ideológico, en otras ocasiones por su potencialidad como argumento. Se sigue en primer lugar el proceso que lleva el argumento de la condición de topos literario a la de mythos, con referencias a los hitos en esta trayectoria. Se plantea, a continuación, la naturaleza de las obras de Schiller (1787) y Luis Riaza (c.1974) sobre el eje de sus diferencias, en particular las que contrastan amor romántico e incesto y las que oponen el escepticismo a la ilusión revolucionaria. Finalmente, a partir de las consideraciones realizadas y su relación con las teorías de Steiner y Girard, se apunta la índole metapoética como rasgo definidor de lo literario.

An essay in comparative literature. The unclarified circumstances of the death of Philip II's son were manipulated from very early on, sometimes due to ideological interest, on other occasions due to their potential as a literary argument. In the first place, the process that takes it from the condition of topos to that of mythos is followed, with references to the milestones in this trajectory. Next, the nature of the works of Shiller (1787) and Luis Riaza (c.1974) is considered on the axis of their differences, in particular those that contrast romantic love and incest and those that oppose skepticism to revolutionary illusion. Dinally, based on the considerations made and their relationship with the theories of Steiner and Girard, the metapoetic nature is pointed out as a defining feature of the literary.
