    Los edificios que componen una de las instituciones más reconocibles de Donostia-San Sebastián, el actual Museo de San Telmo, han pasado a lo largo de los siglos por diversas funciones y usos, entre ellos los religiosos y militares. Así a lo largo de 272 años, entre 1562 y 1834, tuvo un uso religioso, y entre 1794 y 1925, es decir, durante 131 años, tuvo un uso militar. Este último es uno de los menos estudiados y conocidos. El artículo repasa pues cómo ha evolucionado uno y otro, en el contexto de una plaza fuerte, hasta llegar al actual uso civil entre 1932 y 2021.

    The buildings belonging to one of the most remarkable institutions in the city of Donostia-San Sebastián, namely the San Telmo Museum, or STM, have had, all along the centuries, different uses whether religious or military. Looking back in the history of the buildings, three main periods are recognizable. The fi rst one lasted 272 years, from 1562 to 1834 as a religious site. A second period of 131 years, stretching back from 1794 to 1925 turning the buildings into a military barracks. This is one of the less known uses at which the buildings were intended for. We will see the evolution of both periods, in the context of a fortifi ed town, up to the current civil use of the San Telmo premises between 1932 and 2021.

    Donostiako erakunde ezagunenetako bat, egungo San Telmo Museoa, hartzen duten eraikinek mendeetan zehar hainbat funtzio eta erabilera izan dituzte, horien artean erlijiosoak eta militarrak. Horrela, 272 urtetan zehar, 1562 eta 1834 artean, erabilera erlijiosoa izan zuen, eta 1794 eta 1925 artean, hau da, 131 urtez, erabilera militarra. Azken hori da gutxien aztertu eta ezagutzen direnetako bat.
