    En este estudio se analiza una idea muy presente en el mundo educativo de Costa de Marfil hasta finales de la década de 1990: El español es para las chicas. Tras destapar el sobreentendido machista de la afirmación, procuramos demostrar que subyace en ella, como la otra cara de la moneda, una asociación del español con lo femenino bastante característica de la imagen que los extranjeros tienen por lo general de la lengua de Cervantes. Es una investigación de corte cuantitativo con una muestra de más de 3400 informantes, esencialmente alumnos y profesores de español como lengua extranjera (ELE) de educación secundaria y superior encuestados en diferentes zonas de Costa de Marfil. En su gran mayoría, piensan que si el español fuera un ser humano sería de sexo femenino por ser, entre otros motivos, un idioma suave, lleno de afectividad y romanticismo en su expresión lingüística y cultural.

    This study analyses an idea that was very present in the educational world of Ivory Coast until the end of the 1990s: Spanish is for girls. After highlighting the chauvinistic overtones of this statement, we attempt to show that it underlies, as the other side of the coin, an association of Spanish with the feminine that is quite characteristic of the image that foreigners generally have of the language of Cervantes. This is a quantitative research project based on a sample of more than 3,400 informants, mainly secondary and higher education pupils and teachers of Spanish as a foreign language surveyed in different parts of Ivory Coast. The vast majority of them think that if Spanish were a human being, it would be female because, among other reasons, it is a soft language, full of affection and romanticism in its linguistic and cultural expression.
