    Los sistemas de educación superior han sido sometidos a un duro escrutinio y este, a su vez, remite a la actuación del profesorado. Con el propósito de conocer las características, necesidades y demandas de capacitación del docente universitario de las instituciones de educación superior (IES) públicas del estado de Nayarit, se realizó un estudio descriptivo de enfoque cuantitativo con un diseño transversal a una muestra de 605 docentes pertenecientes a ocho IES del estado. El estudio reveló que se cuenta con un profesorado actualizado, interesado por la formación continua y motivado por alcanzar estándares de calidad.

    Higher education systems have been subject of a high level of scrutiny; consequently, this inquiry directs to the performance of teachers. With the purpose of knowing the characteristics, needs and training demands of the university professor of the public higher education institutions of the state of Nayarit (HEIs), a descriptive study of quantitative approach was carried out. It included a cross-sectional design to a sample of 605 teachers belonging to eight public HEIs of the state. The study revealed that, the HEIs considered for this project have an updated teaching staff interested in continuing education and motivated to achieve high quality standards.
