  • Resumen
    • The recycling of electronic products is an important alternative in terms of reducing the accumulation of e-waste, but it requires the support of the community to be successful. The aim of this study was to identify the profile and motivations of individuals who participated in a pioneering e-waste recycling event carried out in the metropolitan area of the capital of the State of Mexico—a state located in the centre of the country, around Mexico City—. The information gathered from a survey of 177 of the 202 participants established that their level of education, their general concern about environmental problems and their engagement in pro-environmental behaviours are higher than among non-participants. As for their motivations, it was concluded that the influence of friends and family, a strong sense of commitment to the community and the availability of permanent sites for the collection of electronic waste close to their home all significantly affect recycling behaviour.
