    La relevancia de la iconografía numismática y perspectivas futuras que para su emisor suponían los tipos monetales, nos ha llevado a investigar el origen de la inclusión del busto de Cristo en la moneda, tradicionalmente ligado a las acuñaciones bizantinas de Justiniano II. Sin embargo, el análisis de la sucesión de los hechos sitúa en el reino visigodo de Toledo, la aparición del busto de Cristo como tipo principal de una moneda en toda la Europa cristiana, adelantándose algunos años a las acuñaciones justinianeas. Esta iconografía quedó ligada sin duda a los problemas sucesorios que estaban socavando al Estado visigodo.

    The relevance of numismatic iconography and prospects of monetary rates supposed for its issue, had led us to research the origin of the inclusion of the bust of Christ in the coin, which traditionally had been linked to the Byzantine coinage of Justinian II. Nevertheless, the analysis of the succession of events located the beginning of the appearance of the bust of Christ as the main monetary type of a coin throughout Christian Europe in the Visigothic kingdom of Toledo, thus anticipating the Justinian mintage by some years. Associating, from now on, this iconographic novelty to the succession troubles which were undermining the Visigoth state.
