A new subspecies of planktonic foraminifera, Globorotalia hirsuta eastropacia n. subsp., is herein established on the basis of planktonic material collected by the EASTROPAC expedition in the epipelagic zone (200-0 m) of the eastern part of the Tropical Pacific Ocean. This subspecies differs from Globorotalia hirsuta hirsuta (d'Orbigny) (nominal subspecies) in having a very lobulate peripheral outline and the ventral side more inflated than the dorsal. It is also slightly smaller in size and a keel and pustulate ornamentation are not present.
