The study of the species Carinocythereis carinata (ROEMER) and Carinocythereis antiquata (BAIRO) living presently in the Bay of Biscay has permitted us to study their bathymetric distribution C. carinata (ROEMER) lives in the internal infralittoral zone, and C. antiquata (BAIRO) is developped in the circalittoral zone; the two species coexist in the external infralittoral zone (75-90 m.).
This distribution is found in cores, showing a gradual increase in water depth in the last 12000 years.
