    The preservation of the environment is essential for the maintenance of life, and there must be awareness about the importance of natural resources for sustainability, thus, environmental education is an important strategy in this process. Given the relevance of the topic, the aim of this article was to investigate in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR, whether school gardens are used for environmental education in the municipal education system and compared the results between urban and rural schools. The evidence of environmental changes and impacts brings with it the need to develop knowledge on the subject, and as environmental education is one of the first sources of dissemination of this knowledge, it is indispensable in schools, which constituted the justification for this study, the which, seeks to answer the following question: How are school gardens used for environmental education in municipal and rural schools in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR?

    A preservação do meio ambiente é indispensável para a manutenção da vida, e é preciso que haja conscientização sobre a importância dos recursos naturais para a sustentabilidade, assim, a educação ambiental é uma importante estratégia neste processo. Diante da relevância do tema, o objetivo deste artigo foi de investigar no município de Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR, se as hortas escolares são empregadas para a educação ambiental na rede municipal de ensino, e, comparou os resultados entre as escolas urbanas e rurais. As evidências de alterações e impactos ambientais trazem consigo a necessidade de se desenvolver conhecimento sobre o tema, e sendo a educação ambiental uma das primeiras fontes de disseminação desse conhecimento, ela faz-se indispensável nas escolas, o que constituiu a justificativa deste estudo, o qual, busca responder a seguinte questão: Como as hortas escolares são utilizadas para a educação ambiental nas escolas municipais e rurais no município de Marechal Cândido Rondon – PR?
