This article seeks to detail and differentiate the notion of “trace” in the works of J. Derrida and E. Lévinas, aiming to study how it makes possible (or not) a hospitable consideration of nonhuman animals. Our general hypothesis is that it is not feasible unless all values and oppositional terms are transvalued. If, according to Derrida, a philosopher is not conprehended until what he states regarding the distinction between humans and animals is understood, this research will allow us to detail how difference and otherness are inscribed in each case. On one side, the trace as divine and pneumatic infinite, and on the other the trace as inscription under the logic of profanation.
