Resumen de O guerreiro de fronteira bizantino Akrites segundo segundo o Strategikon de Cecaumenos (séc. XI)

  In the 10th Century, the territorial expansion of Byzantium to the East tranformed the byzantine frontier. Which was divided in small districts called kleisura; those were expanded and transformed into themata, similar to the other districts in the inner imperial territory. Their commandants, the Akritai Strategoi, became the major responsible for the success or the failure of the Byzantine’s territory defense. This role is very well detailed in a Council book wrote by the byzantine aristocrat Cecaumenos (1010?-1070?): The Strategikon. Already and briefly analyzed by the Italian byzantinist Agostino Pertusi. This work intends to continue the conclusions made by this historian, going deeper in some points made by him and pointing new ones. Taking account the fact that in those times which that book was written, the political organization of the Frontiers described before was in its final crisis, what makes these councils “old-fashioned” for the time. Therefore, it will be also discussed the reason that made the author write about an institution that was almost in disuse.

  No século X, a expansão territorial de Bizâncio para o Oriente transformou a fronteira bizantina. Ela era demarcada por pequenos distritos chamados de kleisura, os quais foram expandidos e transformados em themata, a semelhança de outros distritos do interior do território imperial. Seus comandantes, os Akritai Strategoi, se tornaram os grandes responsáveis pelo sucesso ou falha da defesa do território bizantino. Papel esse muito bem detalhado em um manual de conselhos escrito pelo aristocrata bizantino Cecaumenos (c. 1010-1070): o Strategikon, brevemente analisado pelo bizantinista italiano Agostino Pertusi. Esse trabalho pretenderá aprofundar a análise de Pertusi. Leva-se em consideração o fato de que na época em que o manual de Cecaumenos fora escrito, tal organização política da fronteira se encontrava em sua crise final, fazendo esses conselhos serem “ultrapassados” para a época. Portanto, também será discutida a razão que impeliu o autor a escrever sobre uma instituição que se encontrava quase em desuso.
