  A história da representação romana dos cartagineses e demais semitas do ocidente do Mediterrâneo, desde as Guerras Púnicas até o século I a.C., é comentada no presente texto. As observações sugerem uma transformação dessa representação, daquela de inimigos no período das guerras até a de “não confiáveis” no final do período da República Romana. De forma a se fazerem aceitos no mundo romano, os semitas, ao final de República, adotavam os costumes e a cultura romana, passando, assim, a serem vistos como pertencentes àquela cultura.

  The history of the roman representation of the carthaginians and other semites from the Westen Mediterranean, during the Punic Wars and until the I century b.C., is commented in the present text. The observations lead to the suggestion of a transformation of this representation, from “enemy”, during the wars, to “not trustworthy”, at the end of the Republic. In order to make themselves accept in the roman world, the semites, at the end of the Republic, adopted the roman culture, and, in this way, were saw as belonging to that culture.
