  Partial translation of the second chapter of historian and translator Swedish Pär Bergman’s book, entitled "Modernolatria" et "Simultaneità": recherches sur deux tendences dans l'avant-garde littéraire en Italie et en France à la veille de la première guerre mondial(Uppsala: Svenska Bökforlaget / Bonniers, 1962). In this passage of work, Bergman details the circumstances of the emergence of Futurism, investigating the genesis of the manifesto published in Le Figaro, in February 1909, in addition to political and social meaning of the term "futurism" and the role of magazines Poetryand Lacerbain disclosure of futuristic actions.The author also addresses the exposure of futuristic artists to irony of the journalists of the time by excessive commitment to the future, the controversies surrounding the avant-garde movement foundation and the military character of the new followers recruitment initiatives. Finally, Bergman emphasizes the role of key figuresof the movement and the approach of futurism to fascism.

  Tradução parcial, realizada por Júlio Bernardo Machinski, do segundo capítulo do livro do historiador e tradutor sueco Pär Bergman, intitulado “Modernolatria” et “Simultaneità”: recherches sur deux tendences dans l’avant-garde littéraire en Italie et en France à la veille de la première guerre mondial (Uppsala: Svenska Bökforlaget/Bonniers, 1962). Nesta passagem da obra, Bergman (p. 48-78) detalha as circunstâncias do surgimento do movimento futurista, investigando a gênese do manifesto publicado no jornal Le Figaro, em fevereiro de 1909, além do sentido político e social do termo “futurismo” e o papel das revistas Poesia e Lacerba na divulgação das ações futuristas. O autor aborda, ainda, a sujeição dos futuristas à ironia dos jornalistas da época em virtude da aposta desmedida no futuro, as polêmicas que envolveram a fundação do movimento de vanguarda e o caráter militar das iniciativas de recrutamento de novos adeptos.
