Resumen de Entre panegíricos e moedas: um estudo da cultura política através da retórica e das imagens divinas na Tetrarquia

The Tetrarchy’s reform and the systematic reordering of the imperial cult under the aegis of Diocletian and Maximian can be analyzed through the study of coins and the Latin Panegyrics. The purpose of this article is to understand the political role of these two elements, a priori considered as instruments of praise in the rituals of the basileia. As case study, we selected the images of Jupiter and especially of Hercules which are shown in the monetary issues and in some passages of the speeches. The bond between the basileus and the audience at the time of public rituals, as well as the power relations resulting from the legitimating of the monarchy will be analyzed in the light of the political culture.

As reformas da Tetrarquia e, sobretudo, a sistemática reordenação do culto imperial sob a égide de Diocleciano e Maximiano podem ser analisadas a partir do estudo das moedas e dos Panegíricos Latinos. O objetivo deste artigo consiste em compreender qual o papel político desses dois elementos, que a priori consideramos como instrumentos de louvor no cerimonial da basileia. Como estudo de caso, selecionamos as imagens de Júpiter e, principalmente, de Hércules, que aparecem nas emissões monetárias e nas passagens dos discursos. O enlace que ocorre entre o basileus e os súditos por ocasião dos rituais públicos, bem como as relações de poder que decorrem do processo de legitimação do governo, foram pensados à luz dos pressupostos teóricos da cultura política.
