Implementation of the sustainable urbanization strategy in Malmö and Ostrava

  • The aim of this article is to compare two European cities, Malmö and Ostrava, in terms of the implementation of the assumptions of sustainable urbanization with particular emphasis on environmental management. The research was carried out using the two techniques of field research and content analysis of these cities’ websites. Results of the research show that when implementing the strategy of sustainable urbanization in Malmö and Ostrava, city authorities adopt two different approaches. In Malmö the dominant activities are those which support the environment, in Ostrava, however, preference is given to more ‘passive’ initiatives.
