    La influenza afecta entre el 10 y el 20% a la población mundial. Esta enfermedad ocasiona 3 a 5 millones de casos y 250,000 a 500,000 muertes por año. En Panamá el 40 % de las infecciones respiratorias agudas son causadas por virus y el tercer lugar le corresponde a la influenza. Este es un estudio descriptivo transversal que busca evaluar la eficiencia, efectividad y oportunidad del sistema de información (SISVIG Y SIES) en Veraguas. Se analizaron bases de datos del SISVIG y SIES de Veraguas durante el 2017 año, en que se notifican se notifican al SISVIG 2797 y al SIES 3263 casos de influenza, para una tasa de 9.8 y 13.4 por cada 1000 personas, respectivamente. En ambos sistemas, predominaron casos en el periodo lluvioso (junio-octubre); los menores de 5 años y mayores de 50 años fueron los grupos más afectados; y las tasas de influencia son mayores en mujeres que en los hombres. Existen diferencias importantes entre los dos sistemas utilizando una misma fuente de información.

    Influenza affects 10 to 20% of the world population, it causes 3 to 5 million cases and 250 thousand to 500,000 deaths per year. In Panama, 40% of acute respiratory infections are caused by viruses, the third place corresponds to influenza. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study that seeks to evaluate the efficiency, effectiveness and timeliness of the information system (SISVIG & SIES) in Veraguas. SISVIG and SIES databases of Veraguas were analyzed, during 2017, in this same year SISVIG 2797 and SIES 3263 were notified of influenza cases, for a rate of 9.8 and 13.4 per 1000 people respectively. In both systems, these cases predominated in the rainy season (June-October), children under 5 years and adults over 50 years are the most affected groups, and the influence rates are higher in women than in men. There are important differences between the two systems using the same source of information.
