Resumen de The taxonomic value of spiral accessory apertures in some Tertiary taxa

J. Van Heerden

  • In a well-preserved sample from SE Spain, specimens of planktonic Foraminifera were found with supplementary sutural apertures on the spiral side. These specimens are referable to Globigerina yeguaensis Weinzierl and Applin and Globorotalia spinulosa Cushman, species, which do not ordinarily possess such apertures.

A survey of the available literature on secondary spiral apertures is given; the taxonomic value of secondary apertures is discussed, and it is recommended that the genus TRUNCOROTALOIDES Brönnimann and Bermúdez (1953) be withdrawn.
