  La conversión de las potencialidades turísticas en habilidades para el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida,pasa por las acciones que pudieran emprender las comunidades, las organizaciones y la propia población,fortalecidas desde lo que significa la gestión turística, oportuna y adecuada. Siendo así, el estudio que origina este artículo busca cumplir con el objetivo de describir la situación actual de la gestión turística en relación con la calidad de vida de los habitantes de Bajo Alto, El Guabo-Ecuador. La investigación es de tipo aplicada y descriptiva, pues se trata de valorar las oportunidades que representa el turismo para una comunidad que no tiene muchas opciones a la hora de elegir las actividades económicas y productivas en la búsqueda de una mejor calidad de vida. Desde el punto de vista operacional, el estudio está sustentado en la aplicación de dos cuestionarios:por una parte a los dirigentes de la comunidad Bajo Alto, allegados a la actividad turística de la zona;y, por otro lado,a quienes la visitan en calidad de turistas. En general se logra visibilizar las necesidades principales que debe cubrir la gestión turística para convertirse en una opción real para mejorar la calidad de vida de los habitantes

  The conversion of tourism potential into skills for improving the quality of life, involves actions that communities, organizations and the population itself could undertake, strengthened from what timely and adequate tourism management means. Thus, the study that originates this article seeks to fulfill the objective of describing the current situation of tourism management in relation to the quality of life of the inhabitants of Bajo Alto, El Guabo-Ecuador. The research is of an applied and descriptive type, since it is about assessing the opportunities that tourism represents for a community that does not have many options when choosing economic and productive activities in the search for a better quality of life. From the operational point of view, the study is supported by the application of two questionnaires: on the one hand, to the leaders of the Bajo Alto community, close to the tourist activity in the area; and, on the other hand, to those who visit it as tourists. In general, it is possible to make visible the main needs that tourism management must cover to become a real option to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants
