    The central objective of the present article is to analyze the processes of classifications and hierarchizations of social groups and individuals belonging to the Portuguese Asian Empire. Based on missionary narratives written between the 16th and 17th centuries, I seek to understand how the formation of a mestizo Society - whether by biological and/or cultural means - in Asian spaces ended up shaping the practice and discourse about the local, mestizo and Portuguese populations who lived there.

    O presente artigo tem como objetivo central analisar os processos de classificações e hierarquizações de grupos sociais e indivíduos pertencentes ao Império Asiático português. A partir de narrativas missionárias, escritas entre os séculos XVI e XVII, busco compreender como que a formação da sociedade mestiça - seja ela por vias biológicas, seja por vias culturais - nos espaços asiáticos, acabou por moldar a prática e o discurso sobre as populações locais, mestiças e portuguesas que ali viviam.
