    El conjunto histórico de Écija cuenta con varios siglos de conformación desde sus orígenes romanos hasta la actualidad. Los daños al patrimonio religioso en el siglo XIX, así como el desarrollismo iniciado en los años 60 del siglo XX con desafortunadas pérdidas patrimoniales que continúan hasta ahora, han provocado que el casco histórico se haya ido desangrando paulatinamente. Todo ello a pesar de que, de manera simultánea en España, y en concreto en la ciudad, se han ido tomando una serie de medidas preventivas como su catalogación en BIC Conjunto Histórico o la redacción de su último PGOU que en teoría deberían proteger más el patrimonio histórico. El problema es que dichas leyes a veces no son cumplidas por parte de los propietarios de los bienes y desgraciadamente tampoco la aplicación de acciones coercitivas por parte de la Administración (ya sea local o autonómica) ha sido muy frecuente. Se exponen una serie de intervenciones que han afectado negativa o positivamente al sostenimiento patrimonial de la ciudad.

    The historical center of Écija has several centuries of conformation from its Roman origins to the present times. The historical city has been gradually deteriorating due to the damages to the religious heritage in the 19th century to the decade of the 60s in the 20th century with unfortunate patrimonial losses that continue up to now. All this even though, simultaneously in Spain, and specifically in the city, a series of preventive measures have been taken, such as their listing as BIC Conjunto Histórico or the drafting of their latest PGOU, which in theory should have limited these losses. The problem is that these laws sometimes are not accomplished by the property owners and unfortunately the use of penalties by the Administration (whether local or regional) has not been frequent. In the present article a series of interventions that have negatively or positively affected the city heritage are presented.
