The author focuses on Archilochus elegiac fragments and defends an interpretation of these texts from a double perspective: the dynamics of the Archaic symposium (the elegies must be understood as fully integrated in this framework and containing a variety of resources coincident in a ‘metasympotic’ function) and the poetic technique, representative of an orality that at the same plays with its parallelism to the epic style and with its differentiation. All this together allows us to try a reconstruction of the features of the performance of these poems and opens perspectives concerning their re-performance (valid also for other types of versification)
