In the Homeric question, the study of Homer’s true identity and the investigation of his poetic language are relevant; however, the poem itself is worthy of attention too. On the one hand the analysis of the structure of the Iliad shows the coherence with which history is cut within the epic cycle, on the other it is possible to identify in the narration a circular pattern centered on the days of battle. All this is not in contrast with the oral tradition of the text: circularity is a way of composition and listening.
