Resumen de Le débat de l’"Antiope" d’Euripide et les grands combats de sagesse
A comparison between the famous debate between Zethos and Amphion in Euripides’ Antiope and the better-known contests of wisdom—the Certamen Homeri et Hesiodi and that in Aristophanes’ Frogs—is put forward. In both of these, the contender who is expected to win is surprisingly defeated by the verdict of the deciding authority. Assuming that fr. 206 Kannicht is placed at the conclusion of the argument between Zethos and Amphion and assigned to the Herdsman who raised the twins, the same may be supposed regarding the Antiope debate. The conjectural attribution of fr. 910 Kannicht to the debate is also supported, in that it may contain the Chorus’ praise for the position held by Amphion, in parallel with the audience’s support for the defeated Homer in the Certamen
