In the prologue of Mirall trencat Mercè Rodoreda explains that there are metamorphoses in her works and says: “Ovid is in them, as well as the marvelous The Golden Ass and Kafka”. Three authors; three works, probably the most significant of all time, which deal with metamorphism. We have serious and accurate studies about Mercè Rodoreda delving into her connection with the works by Kafka, and also with Ovid’s ones, but I have never read an article which pays attention to the relationship of Rodoreda’s works with Apuleius’s The Metamorphoses or The Golden Ass. What follows, therefore, is a first approach to the connections of one of Rodoreda’s works with Apuleius’s novel.
