Proverbs are very important in Greek tragedy. Sometimes they show the traitsof a character, sometimes the mood of a situation. Sometimes they are at the beginning of a Chorus and indicate its main theme. Sometimes they stretch the meaningof a rhesis at its end. Examples of each case are discussed in this paper.
