  Europa se construye a partir y a través de sus fronteras. La Raya Ibérica es una de las áreas transfronterizas comunitarias más antiguas. Es por ello que el objetivo de nuestro trabajo es la caracterización socioeconómica, en el horizonte temporal 2002-2018, mediante la elaboración de indicadores ya existentes, de carácter demográfico, económico, productivo, etc., a fin de obtener unas con- clusiones esclarecedoras sobre su situación. Los principales hallazgos son que la Raya norte es predominante en población, producto pc y productividad. Si contrastamos la situación y evolución del PIB pc, sólo las provincias gallegas muestran una posición destacada, mientras que, en términos de productividad, únicamente resulta más significativa la provincia de Huelva. Además, la produc- tividad promedio de todas las provincias españolas rayanas es superior a las de las NUTS III 1 portuguesas. Por último, la Raya Ibérica tiene una situación demo- gráfica y de PIB pc muy inferior a la de los estados ibéricos y su productividad aparente del trabajo es mejor que la de Portugal, pero inferior a la de España

  Europe is built from and across its borders. The Raya Ibérica is one of the oldest cross-border areas in the EU. That is why the aim of our work is the socio-economic characterisation, in the time horizon 2002-2018, by means of the elaboration of already existing indicators of demographic character, eco- nomic, productive, etc. in order to obtain some enlightening conclusions about its situation. The main findings are that the northern stripe is predominant in terms of population, pc product and productivity. If we contrast the situation and evolution of GDP pc, only the Galician provinces show a prominent position, while in terms of productivity, only the province of Huelva is more significant.

  Moreover, the average productivity of all the Spanish Raya provinces is higher than that of the Portuguese NUTS III provinces. Finally, the Iberian Raya has a demographic and GDP pc situation much lower than that of the Iberian states and its apparent labour productivity is better than that of Portugal, but lower than that of Spain
