Resumen de Modificaciones cuantitativas del endotelio corneal en la intervención quirúrgica de cataratas por extracción tunelizada esclerocorneal

  Introducción: después de realizar procedimientos intraoculares, en el endotelio corneal se manifiestan cambios. La operación de catarata puede inducir modificaciones de este tipo, de forma permanente o temporal.Objetivo: describir las modificaciones cuantitativas que se producen en las células endoteliales de la córnea, en los operados de catarata por extracción tunelizada esclerocorneal del cristalino e implante de lente intraocular, en el Centro Oftalmológico del Hospital General Docente “Enrique Cabrera” de La Habana, de enero de 2017 a diciembre 2018.Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y prospectivo en el universo de 644 pacientes diagnosticados en el Centro Oftalmológico, del cual se tomó una muestra de 250 pacientes (280 ojos) que cumplieron con los criterios del estudio. Para la evaluación del endotelio corneal se utilizó el microscopio endotelial especular SP-3 000. Se cumplieron los principios éticos de la investigación.Resultados: la densidad endotelial central promedio prequirúrgica fue 2 620 células por milímetro cuadrado, y la pérdida celular endotelial central de 9,60 %, con coeficiente de variabilidad media prequirúrgica de 39,60 % y posquirúrgica de 42,80 %. La hexagonalidad presentó valores medios prequirúrgicos de 55,00 % y posquirúrgicos de 65,00 %.Conclusiones: se produjeron modificaciones cuantitativas del endotelio corneal. Dentro de ellas: la disminución de la densidad celular endotelial y modificaciones significativas de la hexagonalidad y el coeficiente de variabilidad

  Introduction: after performing intraocular procedures, changes appear in the corneal endothelium. Cataract surgery can induce changes of this type, permanently or temporarily.Objective: to describe the quantitative modifications that occur in the corneal endothelial cells, in cataract operated by sclerocorneal tunnel extraction of the lens and intraocular lens implantation, at the Ophthalmological Center of the General Teaching Hospital “Enrique Cabrera” in Havana, from January 2017 to December 2018.Methods: a descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out in the universe of 644 patients diagnosed in the Ophthalmology Center, from which a sample of 250 patients (280 eyes) who met the study criteria was taken. The SP-3 000 specular endothelial microscope was used to evaluate the corneal endothelium. The ethical principles of the research were met.Results: the mean pre-surgical central endothelial density was 2 620 cells per square millimeter, and central endothelial cell loss of 9,60 %, with a mean preoperative variability coefficient of 39,60 % and 42,80 % postoperative. Hexagonality presented mean pre-surgical values of 55,00 % and post-surgical values of 65,00 %.Conclusions: there were quantitative modifications of the corneal endothelium.
