Resumen de La incidencia de los textos en la enseñanza del inglés en Panamá: Reflexiones para la discusión

La enseñanza del inglés en Panamá es mediada por la selección de textos y recursos, motivo por el cual es imprescindible reflexionar sobre la calidad y tipos de textos disponibles. Estos textos son clasificados como L1 y L2 (primera y segunda lengua) y son vistos desde la perspectiva de las instituciones que los implementan en el desarrollo de sus propuestas educativas, al igual que desde la óptica de las necesidades de mejora de la enseñanza del inglés a nivel nacional.
El objetivo de este artículo es discutir la utilidad de los textos utilizados en las instituciones educativas según la calidad de sus contenidos para el aprendizaje del inglés. La metodología usada en el presente estudio fue documental y basada en los datos facilitados por las editoriales e instituciones educativas. Se propone la revisión de los criterios de selección de textos, que permita una reflexión sobre la enseñanza del inglés con la finalidad de distinguir la realidad de los problemas de inequidad de acceso al conocimiento.

The teaching of English in Panama is mediated by the selection of texts and resources, which is why it is essential to reflect on the quality and types of texts available. These texts are classified as L1 and L2 (first and second language) and are seen from the perspective of the institutions that implement them in the development of their educational proposals, as well as from the perspective of the needs for improvement of English teaching at the national level. The objective of this article is to discuss the usefulness of the texts used in educational institutions according to the quality of their contents for learning English. The methodology used in the present study was documentary and based on the data provided by publishers and educational institutions. We propose the revision of the selection criteria of texts, which allows a reflection on the teaching of English in order to know the truth about the reality of unequal access to knowledge.
