El origen de este trabajo no responde a una investigación de archivo, sino a la realización de una pintura al óleo que ejecuté en el año 2018. En ella pretendía proponer una hipótesis de reconstrucción del antiguo retablo mayor de la iglesia del Sagrario de Sevilla, obra de Jerónimo Balbás y Pedro Duque Cornejo, reali-zada entre 1706 y 1712 y destruida en 1824. Como base de información tomamos el texto sobre la iglesia del Sagrario de Juan Agustín Ceán Bermúdez, así como otras observaciones de diferentes autores posteriores. La intención primera no es otra que provocar, en quien contemple el lienzo, una sensación parecida a la que debieron sentir aquellos que durante el siglo XVIII accedían al templo sevillano

The origin of this work does not respond to archival research, but to the realization of an oil painting that I executed in 2018. In it I intended to propose a reconstruction hypothesis of the old main altarpiece of the church of the Sagrario in Seville, a work by Jerónimo Balbás and Pedro Duque Cornejo, carried out bet-ween 1706 and 1712 and destroyed in 1824. As a base of information we take the text by Juan Agustín Ceán Bermúdez, as well as o ther observations by different later authors. The primary intention is none other than to provoke, in whoever contemplates the canvas, a sensation similar to what those who entered the Sevillian temple must have felt during the 18th century.
