Resumen de Modern parliamentary history: in search of methodological consensus

Izmail I. Sharifzhanov

  • The main aim of this paper is to examine three contrasting and, in some respects, contrary models of parliamentary history and give reasons for the necessity of their methodological convergence at present. The first two—traditionally liberal and conservative theories-are presented by M. Kovalevsky and L. Namier respectively; the third one-an up-to-date administrative approach-by G.R. Elton. Their numerous works, though very significant in themselves, present only one-sided visions of parliamentary history's value and could not be taken as definitive models. The task of today is to identify the ways that lead to more comprehensive and adequate methodological principles of parliamentary historians' activities.
