The “socampana”, the geographical space where the echoes of the bells of a town can be heard, has a particular character in Ciudad Rodrigo. This is due to the fact of the evolution of the concept, from common name, to a toponym or proper name, which is applied to the surroundings of this town. His evident existence, recognized in documents dating back from the 18th century, has reached our days, as this name is still used. The special features of the location of the town and its nature as a fortified place have boosted the concept of socampana. The conservation of the historical and architectural heritage has also preserved the geographical and literary one.Contemplating the geographical area of The Socampana is a source of satisfaction and pride for the locals and a tourist attraction for outsiders.
