Resumen de Teleologia e profecias oraculares: análise narratológica das etiologias cultuais no livro VII das 'Histórias' de Heródoto

This article aims to investigate how the oracular propheciesthat led to the inauguration of Greek cultic practices integrates the teleological structure of Herodotus’ work. With an emphasis on book VII of the Histories, the investigation will approach the impact of predictions on the narrative dimensions of the work. Bounding the main plot to cultic etiological digressions, the predictions compose the historian’s argumentative web enunciating justifications related to Greek religious precepts. By searching different dimensions of the past, the oracular lens employed in the historian’s retrospective performance rescues mythological, literary traditions and ritual practices. These partake in his effort to give meaning to the past and, simultaneously, highlight its pertinence considering the context in which the work was published.

Esse artigo tem como proposta investigar de que forma as profecias oraculares que norteiam a inauguração de práticas cultuais gregas integram a estrutura teleológica da obra de Heródoto. Com ênfase no livro VII das Histórias, a investigação abordará o impacto dos vaticínios sobre as dimensões narrativas da obra. Interligando a trama principal às digressões etiológicas cultuais, as predições compõem a teia argumentativa do historiador enunciando justificativas relacionadas a preceitos religiosos gregos. Ao vasculhar diferentes dimensões do passado, a lente oracular empregada na atuação retrospectiva do historiador resgata tradições mitológicas, literárias e práticas rituais. Essas se tornam parte de seu esforço de significação do passado e, simultaneamente, ressaltam suapertinência à luz da conjuntura de publicação da obra.
