FAS® y corticotomías: ortodoncia en el siglo XXI

    El hecho de incidir quirúrgicamente la cortical ósea para reducir la resistencia del movimiento dental se denomina corticotomía. Demostrados están los beneficios de las corticotomías en combinación con los tratamientos ortodóncicos. Permite sobrepasar los límites biológicos en casos “borderline” así como la reducción de los tiempos de tratamiento.

    El hecho de emplear un sistema de alineadores que disponga de la segmentación de raíces reales y que permita superponer la posición final del setup sobre el CBCT del paciente nos va a permitir planificar los movimientos teniendo en cuenta los límites biológicos, y seleccionar aquellos casos en los que la combinación de el tratamiento de alineadores y corticotomías nos va a aportar grandes ventajas como se demuestra en los 6 casos clínicos que mostramos en el presente artículo.

    The fact of surgically incising the vestibular cortex to reduce resistance to tooth movement is called corticotomy. The benefits of corticotomies in combination with orthodontic treatments have been demonstrated, such as allowing the biological limits to be slightly exceeded in those “borderline” cases, as well as reducing treatment times.

    The fact of using a system of aligners that has the segmentation of real roots and that allows to superimpose the STL files (of the intraoral scan) with the DICOM files (of the CBCT of the patient), will allow us to plan our movements taking into account the biological limits, and therefore it will allow us to select those cases in which the combination of treatment with aligners and corticotomies will provide us great advantages, as demonstrated in the 6 clinical cases that we show in this article.
