Resumen de Kinematics in One Dimension—A Smartphone Approach

Marciano Santamaría Lezcano, Lucio Strazzabosco Dorneles, Evgeni Svenk Cruz de Gracia

  • This article reports on characteristics that describe movement in one dimension under two different conditions: movement horizontally and movement on an inclined plane. We used a magnetometer built into a smartphone to obtain and record data through a software application. The Arduino Uno board and the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic distance sensor validate the feasibility of the smartphone magnetometer technique, and results show that it has a high degree of reliability. Thus, it is an efficient resource for studying kinematics in one dimension and measuring parameters such as position, displacement, average velocity, instantaneous velocity, and acceleration. It is possible to perform polynomial and linear fittings to the data and correlate movement characteristics in one dimension, determining the equation of motion.
