Resumen de Il tabernacolo della Cattedrale di Pozzuoli e altre questioni fanzaghiane

Luigi Coiro

  • The article contributes to the knowledge of Fanzago's metal work, starting with the surviving statuettes -a "St. Peter", a "Risen Christ", an two "Angels"- that decorated the tabernacle made around 1640 on behalf of the bishop Martín de León y Cárdenas for the chapel of Santissimo Sacramento in the Cathedral at Pozzuoli. Besides comparisions with the sculpture for the last tabernacle by Fanzago of 1637 for the Count of Monterrey and destined for the church of the "Purísima" in Salamanca and with the ciborium formerly in the Charterhouse of Santo Stefano del Bosco in Serra San Bruno, other works in gilded bronze which can be integrated into the catalogue of the artist and his workshop are presented here. In particular, three "Apostles" formerly in the Tesorone Collection, and since the beginning of the twentieth century into the Museum of San Martino, and a "Saint" and an "Angel" that passed through the antiques market furthermore provide the cue for some new considerations on the intervening relationship between Raphael Meittener, a diligent assistant of his master, and Ercole Ferrata
