Resumen de Biblioteca do Ginásio Pernambuco: levantamento do acervo de matemática do século XIX

Esta pesquisa trata, como indica o título, do Ginásio Pernambucano e promete um levantamento do seu acervo bibliográfico de matemática do século XIX. O Ginásio Pernambucano, ao lado de outras instituições brasileiras de ensino secundário, como, por exemplo, o Colégio Pedro II do Rio de Janeiro, tem uma importância histórica indiscutível diante do surgimento tardio das universidades brasileiras. Nele, e nos demais, as letras e as ciências tinham seu palco único para a incipiente “pesquisa” brasileira. Não é mero acaso que por ocasião da fundação da UFPE – Universidade Federal de Pernambuco - o corpo docente do Ginásio Pernambucano foi o esteio da nova instituição. Criados todos, o Ginásio Pernambucano e os demais, no século XIX, e com a natural influência europeia, não é difícil imaginar que suas bibliotecas carregassem em suas estantes a herança das “Lumières” e do “Aufklärung”.

This research deals, as the title indicates, of the Ginásio Pernambucano and promises a survey of its bibliographical collection of mathematics in nineteenth century. The Ginásio Pernambucano, along with other Brazilian institutions of secondary education, such as the Dom Pedro II school in Rio de Janeiro, has an indisputable historical importance in view of the late emergence of Brazilian universities. In it, and in the others, letters and science had their unique stage for the incipient Brazilian "research". It is no accident that on the occasion of the founding of UFPE –Universidade Federal de Pernambuco -the teaching staff of Ginásio Pernambucano was the mainstay of the new institution. After creation of all, Ginásio Pernambucano and the others, in nineteenth century, and with the natural influence of Europe, it is not difficult to imagine that their libraries carried the inheritance of "Lumières" and "Aufklärung" on their shelves.
