Resumen de Uma história da Educação Matemática da Bahia:: uma análise do ensino de aritmética nas Revistas do Ensino Primário (1892-1893)

  Este artigo tem por objetivo apresentar uma exposição e análise dos pressupostos do ensino de Aritmética na Bahia dos anos finais do século XIX, por intermédio das publicações da Revista do Ensino Primário, referentes aos anos de 1892 e 1893, como constructos para o estudo da História da Educação Matemática na Bahia. A Revista do Ensino, disponível na Biblioteca Pública do Estado da Bahia, no setor de periódicos raros, em seus 10 exemplares, demonstrou-se um excelente instrumento para a referida pesquisa, elucidando aspectos de cunho histórico-cultural, social e educativo, quanto a situação do ensino de Aritmética nas Escolas Primárias do Estado que, seguindo o perfil dos outros Estados, porém de maneira vagarosa e retardatária, investia nos preceitos de uma pedagogia moderna, com base nos modelos pedagógicos desenvolvidos e aplicados em países como os Estados Unidos. O ensino intuitivo, mesmo apresentando dificuldades, foi implantado em tais escolas, bem como uma tecnologia mais avançada como as máquinas de contar, os contadores mecânicos conhecidos como “arithmometros e fracciometros”, visando um melhor desempenho para o ensino da Aritmética.

  This article presents an exposition and analysis of the presuppositions of Arithmetic teaching in Bahia in the last years of nineteenth century, using the publications of the Journal of Primary Education, referring to the years of 1892 and 1893, as buildings for the study of History of Mathematics Education in Bahia. The Magazine of teaching, available in the Public Library of the State of Bahia, in the rare periodicals sector, in its 10 copies, was an instrument for this research, solving historical, cultural, social and educational aspects regarding the situation of Arithmetic teaching in Primary Schools of the State that, following the profile of other states, but in a slow and downgrading way, invested in the precepts of a modern pedagogy, based on the pedagogical models developed and applied in countries like the United States. Even with difficulties, intuitive teaching, was implemented in such schools, with the adoption of Antonio Trajano's book, as well as more advanced technologies for the time, such as counting machines and the mechanical counters known as "arithmometros and fracciometers", looking for a better performance for teaching Arithmetic.
