En 1550 san Francisco de Borja dejó instituida y dotada económicamente en su ducado de Gandía la celebración anual de un drama litúrgico con música monódica y polifónica, que escenifica en el interior del templo el «Santo Entierro» y la «Resurrección» de Cristo, con base en una presunta autorización atribuida al papa Alejandro VI. La desaparición del documento pontificio sirvió de argumento para prohibir la representación en 1865. Tras una serie de avatares que incluyeron el extravío del libreto y de la partitura, una minuciosa y afortunada investigación me permitió la recuperación fiel e íntegra de la obra que desde 1998 vuelve a interpretarse todos los años inserta en la Semana Santa de Gandía.

In 1550, Saint Francis Borgia established and provided with economic resources the annual celebration of a liturgical drama in his Gandía duchy, with both monodic and polyphonic music. This liturgical drama presents, inside the temple, the «Entombment or Holy Burial» and the «Resurrection» of Christ and the performance was presumably authorized by Pope Alexander VI. However, the disappearance of the pontifical document was used as the pretext for prohibiting the liturgical drama in 1865. After many vicissitudes, including the loss of the text and scores, a thorough and successful investigation allowed me to do a complete and faithful recovery of the drama. Since 1998, it is performed every year as part of the Holy Week in Gandía.
