En este artículo argumento mi lectura de The Monterrey News de Hugo Valdés como una obra que privilegia la reconstrucción de la urbe regiomontana. El análisis de la novela de efectuará por medio de tres ejes: “mito fundacional”, “ciudad sin estilo” y “espacios subversivos”. El objetivo es desentrañar las diversas representaciones de una ciudad norteña que, si bien se ha construido particularmente en oposición a la visión centralista de la Ciudad de México, contiene diversas similitudes respecto a lo caótico de la urbe moderna.

This article argument is that The Monterrey News by Hugo Valdés is a novel that privileges the reconstruction of Monterrey city. The analysis is made through the following axis: “foundational myth”, “city without style”, and “subversive spaces”. The objective is to unravel the several representations of a northern city that has been constructed as an opposition to the capital of Mexico, but that also contains similarities as in the chaos of the modern city.
