SOSTENIBILIDAD EN LA BANCA: UN ESTUDIO DE CASO EN ECUADOR

    A partir de entrevistas realizadas en el banco analizado y la revisión de su documentación de desempeño ambiental, se identificaron sus principales iniciativas para reducir su impacto ambiental y el de sus clientes. En particular se reseña la estrategia de “biocrédito” y se presentan sus resultados en tres indicadores: reducción de emisiones de CO2, reducción de consumo de agua y reducción de consumo de energía. Los resultados se tomaron de los reportes de las certificadoras ambientales que revisan la gestión del banco, de la verificación realizada por parte de auditores y de su memoria de sostenibilidad. Se hallaron importantes niveles de reducción en los tres indicadores, lo que confirma la necesidad de implementar estas iniciativas en la banca de manera más generalizada y sostenida.

    Based on interviews with representatives of the analyzed bank and the review of its environmental performance documentation, its main initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and that of its clients were identified. In particular, the "biocredit" strategy is reviewed and its results are presented in three indicators: reduction of CO2 emissions, reduction of water consumption and reduction of energy consumption. The results were taken from the reports of the environmental certifiers that review the bank's management, from the verification carried out by auditors and from its sustainability report. Significant levels of reduction were found in the three indicators, which confirms the need to implement these initiatives in banking in a more widespread and sustained manner.
