Resumen de Etimología y semántica cognitiva: el caso del esp. "cacho"

Nos proponemos analizar la etimología, todavía dudosa, de la palabra española cacho con las herramientas proporcionadas por la semántica cognitiva y con el método de la gramática comparada–reconstrucción. El esp. cacho se cataloga en el DCECH como palabra proveniente de *cacculus, a su vez una variante hipotética de caccabus ‘olla’. En el presente artículo retomamos el asunto, ampliando la perspectiva con un análisis detallado de las voces que se pueden identificar como cognados de la palabra que nos ocupa. En primer lugar, emprendemos un examen semántico de los vocablos para mostrar que las aparentes divergencias de significado responden fielmente a una red conceptual recurrente, cuyo núcleo expresa ‘ímpetu’, verbalizado por una onomatopeya. Tras identificar los lazos conceptuales entre las palabras originadas en esta onomatopeya, utilizamos el método gramática comparada–reconstrucción para establecer el étimo protorrománico de la familia.

We are aiming to analyze the still doubtful etymology of the Spanish word cacho by using the tools provided by cognitive semantics and the method of comparative grammar–reconstruction. Sp. cacho is considered by the DCECH as originated in *cacculus, a hypothetical variant of caccabus ‘type of recipient’. In this article we revisit the matter, expanding the perspective with a detailed analysis of the terms that can be identified as cognates of the word in question. Firstly, we undertake a semantic examination of the lexemes to demonstrate that the apparent divergences in meaning faithfully correspond to a recurring conceptual network, whose core expresses ‘impulse’, verbalized by an onomatopoeia. After identifying the conceptual connections between the words originated from this onomatopoeia, we use the method of comparative grammar–reconstruction in order to establish the Proto-Romance etymon of the family.
