Abstract: This article aims to analyze the trip of Cayetano Córdova Iturburu to Spain in 1937. The Argentinian writer, still understudied by historiography, was part of the movement of anti-fascist intellectuals from Argentina represented mainly by the Association of Intellectuals, Artists, Journalists and Writers (AIAPE) and served as a militant affiliated with the Argentinian Communist Party. In 1937 he traveled to Spain to cover the Civil War as a correspondent for the Diario Crítica, a wide circulation Argentinian newspaper. As a result of this trip, the publicist writes España bajo el comando del pueblo, a book in which he recounts his experience in the Iberian country. Thus, based on the analysis of this book and Córdova Iturburu’s participation in the II Congress of Intellectuals for the Defense of Culture, this article aims to analyze the anti-fascist engagement of the Argentinian writer and also his participation in the Spanish Civil War.

Resumo: Este artigo se propõe a analisar a viagem de Cayetano Córdova Iturburu à Espanha em 1937. O escritor argentino, que ainda é pouco estudado pela historiografia, fez parte do movimento de intelectuais antifascistas da Argentina representado principalmente pela Associação de Intelectuais, Artistas, Periodistas e Escritores (AIAPE) e atuou como militante filiado ao Partido Comunista Argentino. Em 1937 ele viajou para Espanha para cobrir a Guerra Civil como correspondente do Diário Crítica, jornal argentino de grande circulação. Como fruto dessa viagem, foi publicado España bajo el comando del pueblo, livro no qual relata a sua experiência no país ibérico. Assim, a partir da análise desse livro e da participação de Córdova Iturburu no II Congresso de Intelectuais para a Defesa da Cultura, este artigo tem por objetivo analisar o engajamento antifascista do escritor argentino e também a sua participação na Guerra Civil Espanhola.
