Identidad Cultural Afro y Percepción de Estudiantes en la Unidad de Educación General César Nevil Estupiñán Bass de la Parroquia Simón Plata Torres

    La identidad refleja la esencia de cada ser humano, sus características propias, lo que es, lo que cree, aquellas convicciones que lo distinguen de los demás. Con el objetivo de analizar la percepción que tienen los estudiantes de la básica superior de una Unidad de Educación General Básica de la Parroquia Simón Plata Torres en la Ciudad de Esmeraldas sobre la identidad cultural Afro a la que pertenecen, se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, con enfoque descriptivo, a una muestra por conveniencia de 29 estudiantes de octavo, noveno y décimo año básico, divididos en grupos de 10 por cursos, a los que se les aplicó una encuesta, y como instrumento de valoración se seleccionó la Escala de Identidad Étnica Multigrupo (EIEM). Las edades de los participantes están comprendidas entre los 12 a 15 años. Los resultados muestran que, en el nivel de identidad Afro, los estudiantes evidenciaron que el nivel que tienen es medio-alto. Las preguntas que respondieron presentan una media moderada de 2,78 en total; los aspectos que conforman la identidad cultural Afro son tener sangre afrodescendiente, consumir comidas tradicionales, estor convencido de su descendencia; se sienten unidos a su grupo o comunidad y son conocedores de la música Afro. Surgieron cuatro categorías las cuales son orgulloso de ser Afros y conocimiento de sus ancestros (37,9%), respectivamente, mientras que nacer y vivir con 10,3% y desconocimiento de su cultura y tradición con un 13,7%, indican que son pocos los estudiantes que no conocen sobre su cultura e identidad. Se concluye que los adolescentes Afros se sienten muy orgullosos de su comunidad Afro, muy bien con su tradición cultural, reafirman ser felices por pertenecer a ese pueblo y que ellos están muy conscientes de sus raíces.

    Identity reflects the essence of each human being, their own characteristics, what they are, what they believe, and those convictions that distinguish them from others. With the objective of analyzing the perception that the students of a Basic General Education Institution at the Simón Plata Torres Parish in the City of Esmeraldas have about the Afro-cultural identity to which they belong, a quantitative study was carried out, with a descriptive approach, to a convenience sample of 29 eighth, ninth and tenth-grade students, divided into groups of 10 by courses, to whom a survey was applied, and the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Scale was selected as an assessment instrument. (EIEM). The ages of the participants are between 12 and 15 years old. The results show that at the Afro-identity level, the students evidenced that the level they have is medium-high. The questions that they answered present a moderate average of 2.78 in total; the aspects that make up the Afro-cultural identity are having Afro-descendant blood, eating traditional foods, being convinced of their descent; they feel attached to their group or community and know about Afro-music. Four categories emerged which are pride to be Afro and knowledge of their ancestors (37.9%), respectively, while being born and living with 10.3% and ignorance of their culture and tradition 13.7%, indicate that few students do not know about their culture and identity. It is concluded that Afro adolescents feel very proud of their Afro community, very well with their cultural tradition, they reaffirm that they are happy to belong to that town and that they are very aware of their roots.
